About Cooking & Beyond
A TASTE OF EGYPT
Gourmet Chef Entrepreneur
Owner, Cooking and Beyond
As a little girl in Cairo, Aida Mady helped her mother bake and from there her passion blossomed. Aida is the youngest of eight children, and enjoyed baking for many relatives, friends, and those in need.
Now living in Northern Virginia, Aida Mady, wife, mother of three children, interior decorator, and accomplished home cook, is still baking using the cooking techniques she learned as a child. With training and mentoring from Empowered Women International (EWI), Aida was able to successfully launch her own business, Cooking and Beyond, in 2012. She brings with her a unique entrepreneurial spirit rooted in rich culture and passion for the art of baking. Aida shares EWI’s vision for using the arts as a unifying language of multicultural understanding.
Aida has over 30 years of experience in education, business, and interior decorating. She immigrated to the US in 1981 from Egypt, and began her career at a travel agency working as both a travel agent and tour planner. After several years, she took a position at the United Arab Emirates as an assistant academic advisor and then moved to GWU Reading Center, as a program advisor.
Seeing an interest in Egyptian furniture, Aida started her own business importing/exporting furniture and home decor from Egypt. As her business grew, she became a Certified Interior Decorator (CID) and has built three custom homes, and designed and furnished a commercial project in Washington DC.
Aida received her B.S. in Accounting in Cairo, Egypt and has worked closely with the joint program hosted by Pfizer-Egypt, John Hopkins, and Al-Azhar University in their Productive Health Program which emphasizes providing help to women in poverty in an effort for them to lead a better life.
Aida is actively involved in volunteering within her community. She has been a member of the Muslim Women Association (MWA) for the past 10 years. She volunteers with HANDS (Hands Along Nile Development Services), which helps women entrepreneurs in Egypt, and IMAGINE LIFE, a non-political organization for media awareness for children who live under occupation. Beside many other organizations Aida believe in their goals.
